Yawkey Foundations Release 2009 Grants Report

Report Focuses on Organizations Serving the Basic Needs in our Community

The Trustees of the Yawkey Foundations recently released the Foundations' 2009 Grants Report, listing $28.4 million in grants to nearly 250 organizations providing high-quality services and programs to those in need. Recognizing the current economic challenges faced by the communities served by the Foundations, the Trustees entered 2009 with a firm commitment to keep their total 2009 grant funding at nearly the same level as awarded in 2008. They also made a special commitment to funding organizations that support basic needs, such as food and shelter.

This response to the economic downturn is deeply rooted in the philanthropic legacy of Tom and Jean Yawkey. Their long-standing dedication to caring for those around them inspires the Foundations’ ongoing support for education, health care, human services, athletics, arts and culture, and the environment.

Since 2002, the Yawkey Foundations have awarded more than 1,500 grants totaling $257 million across Massachusetts, New England and Georgetown County, South Carolina. For more information or to view the 2009 Yawkey Foundations’ Grants Report, please click here.
